The Bureau of European Design Associations (BEDA) has published a position paper highlighting the central role of design in the future development of Europe and calling for greater integration of design into the policy-making process.
The BEDA position paper emphasizes the need to raise awareness of the transformative power of design in politics and society. Design should be seen as a driver of sustainable growth and prosperity. It drives both low-tech and high-tech innovation in line with European values of sustainability, prosperity and social well-being.
Europe’s challenges are complex and require the brightest minds in design to develop solutions that promote the well-being and security of all European citizens. Design is everywhere – from the physical environment to the digital world, from scientific research to manufacturing. It is a key industry that contributes to solving Europe’s most pressing problems.
Integrating design methods into policy-making supports the development of effective and inclusive policies. The New European Bauhaus movement is already demonstrating how design methods can provide solutions at European and regional levels. These approaches enable planetary, societal and user needs to be translated into effective solutions through creativity, empathy and aesthetics. The BEDA position paper therefore calls for a greater involvement of design to create a more sustainable and innovative future.
Now is the time to support the future of design in Europe!
