Amsterdam Light Festival

As the days get shorter during the winter months, humans respond with: light! These days apartments, buildings and even entire cities are illuminated – to provide a few extra hours of light after night has fallen. It’s something we’re all familiar with, and not only during the weeks leading up to Christmas. The short days and long winter nights also make this a superb time of the year for light festivals such as the Amsterdam Light Festival in the Netherlands, which is on until 19 January 2020, with an outstanding programme of events. The festival features installations by international light artists and designers who use light as their “material”. Now in its eighth year, the festival’s current theme is “disruption” – the aim is to stimulate new ways of seeing and using the city of Amsterdam. As well as individual events, the festival also offers guests an illuminated experience along a number of designated city routes.
