Birte Kreft will succeed Katharina Hesse as CEO of the Stiftung Buchkunst in Frankfurt am Main on 1 December. Her predecessor left the foundation at the end of the Leipzig Book Fair 2023; Carolin Blöink is currently the interim director. Birte Kreft is an expert in publications in the field of contemporary art and photography. After studying art history and business administration, she was responsible for high-quality art books and exhibition catalogues at Hatje Cantz Verlag in Berlin. In 2015, she moved to Kerber Verlag as programme manager and head of the Berlin office, where she promoted the international orientation of the publishing house.
“The Stiftung Buchkunst,” said Birte Kreft, “is the most important platform for high-quality books. I am delighted to be able to continue to combine my passion for books and art and, together with the team and the board, to lead the foundation into the future as an ambassador for beautiful books.” Dr Joachim Unseld, Chairman of the Board of the Stiftung Buchkunst, said: “We are delighted to be placing the leadership of the Stiftung Buchkunst in the hands of an experienced publishing manager in Birte Kreft. With her background in art history and business administration and her many years of professional experience in the art and publishing industry, she is predestined to take the Stiftung Buchkunst forward and develop it further in the coming years.”
