Braun has announced the 22nd edition of the BraunPrize 2024. The competition is looking for innovative solutions in product design under the theme “Ideas to Keep”. The deadline for submissions is the 30th of September.
Braun is a globally successful brand. Throughout its more than 100-year history, the company has always been at the forefront of design. The Braun design is legendary, good design for a better future is one of its principles. The Braun Prize was established in 1968 as the first international competition in Germany to promote the importance of industrial design and the work of young designers.
Erwin Braun, son of company founder Max Braun, and Fritz Eichler, then head of the Braun design department, wanted the prize to attract talent from all over the world. Compared to the 1960s, design today must meet different and higher standards in order to find solutions for tomorrow’s challenges, to successfully integrate sustainability and complex technology into people’s lives and social behaviour. The aim of the Braun Prize remains to promote the work of young and established designers from around the world, to recognise the commitment of design schools, design teams and individuals, and to contribute to a better understanding of the factors and criteria that enable good product design.
Now the company has announced the 22nd edition of its prestigious international design competition: the BraunPrize 2024. Under the theme “Ideas to Keep”, emerging designers are invited to present innovative product design solutions that address the challenges of our rapidly changing world. The deadline for submissions is 30 September. The total prize money of $50,000 will be divided into three prizes of $10,000 each and four prizes of $5,000 each. Selected entries will receive special mentions and the opportunity to be mentored by senior members of the Braun team. “The BraunPrize,” says Oliver Grabes, head of design at Braun and chairman of the jury since 2012, “has evolved while remaining true to its original intention: to promote excellence in design and thinking.”
