“Der Markentag” at the Mainz University of Applied Sciences has in recent years developed into the German-speaking world’s leading discussion platform for the future of branding. At this academic conference, young and established researchers discuss the current status of brand science. In addition, they maintain and expand their networks in order to initiate new research projects. Because Markentag 2020 had to be postponed, the organisers have put out another call for papers for 2021, with previous submissions remaining valid. With “Brand New Thinking” as its motto, the conference is calling for the submission of conceptual, empirical or project-based articles on the general subject of branding. The spectrum ranges from topics such as “strategic positions taken by brands”, “corporate branding and reputation” and “employer branding” to “agile perspectives and organisational challenges in brand management”. Connecting design and brand management will be a dedicated focus area. For this reason, the organisers say that “submissions approaching the phenomenon of branding from the view of design projects, design strategies or design concepts, or submissions discussing the viewpoints of aesthetics or design theory are especially welcome”.

The deadline to submit proposals is 20 May 2021. The results of the selection process will be announced after 1 July 2021, following a double-blind review. The deadline to submit the final conference articles is 3 September 2021. The conference will take place in the LUX Pavilion of Mainz University of Applied Sciences between 16 and 17 September 2021. Further information and the updated call for papers can be downloaded from the website.
