On the Italian furniture market, the consolidation and concentration of traditional companies and design brands continues. Now the furniture brand Zanotta has been sold by the Italian company Tecno to the furniture brand Cassina, which belongs to the American Haworth Lifestyle Design Group. Zanotta, whose products are available in around 700 stores in 50 countries, thus joins the ranks of renowned brands owned by the Haworth Lifestyle Design Group. These include Alias, Cassina, Cappellini, Ceccotti, Poltrona Frau, Luxury Living, Luminaire and Interni. (Luxury Living Group, for example, produces and distributes the furniture lines of luxury brands such as Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Bentley and Bugatti). The goal of the acquisition, he said, is to leverage Cassina’s international distribution network to expand Zanotta’s reach. However, the brand is to retain autonomy over its product range, he said.

Zanotta was founded in 1954 in Nova Milanese and is considered one of the most important players in the history of Italian design. Since the 1960s, thanks to its founder Aurelio Zanotta, the company has conquered the design scene with numerous outstanding products. They are characterized by innovation and technological research, as well as by the continuous development of the quality of materials and production processes. Zanotta has collaborated with some of the most important Italian architects* and designers, including Gae Aulenti, Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, Alessandro Mendini, Carlo Mollino, Bruno Munari, Ettore Sottsass and the avant-garde architectural group Superstudio. Among the most famous designs, produced for decades, are the lounge chair “Maggiolina”, the coat rack “Sciangai”, the armchair “Sacco”, the chair “Tonietta”, the tractor seat stool “Mezzadro” and the series of tables “Quaderna” covered with a grid.
