Due to construction measures in the Kleines Haus of the Staatstheater Darmstadt, the Kammerspiele will serve as an interim venue for the theatre from summer 2022. The change can be seen, among other things, in the graphic redesign of the foyer of the Kammerspiele. Where people meet before, after and during performances, the audience has been surrounded by the graphic intervention “The Politics of Staging” since last year, which consists of depictions of various people and groups of people in different scenes of city events. What are the stories behind the individual “isotypes”, which not entirely coincidentally resemble figurines or groups of figures? How did the compositions come about and how do they function in space?

Under the title “At the bar with …”, Vera & Ruedi Baur from the designers’ collective “civic city” will talk about this on 7 June at 8 p.m. in dialogue with employees of the Painters’ Hall of the Staatstheater Darmstadt. Also taking part is the architect Jurek Werth, who has implemented several urban projects on Georg Büchner Platz and explored performative points of contact with public space in his interventions. The “politics of staging”, they say, is “also a question of the division of space – into inside and outside, into in and out, into who is heard and who remains silent, who do we see and who do we not see?
