Design education in the 21st century: A festival in Halle
In honour of the anniversary of the founding of Bauhaus, projects across Germany are looking at the movement’s educational programme and the influence it continues to have to this day. The question of what we need to get out of design education, today and in the future, has long fallen out of public discourse. Now, the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle intends to fill this gap with a new international festival dedicated to design education in the 21st century, HURRA HURRA, which will run from 4 to 6 October 2019. The festival’s central themes will be the discrepancy between university study and the working world, and the resource-related challenges that designers face even during their training. Attendees can expect discussions, debates, philosophical enquiry and experimentation on »ways to find or create a form of design education which is relevant, and which in turn can have a transformative impact on how design is practised«. University students, international teachers and professional practitioners from design studios and companies are invited to attend the festival’s talks and workshops.
