Mobility is a core area when it comes to reducing CO2 emissions – and the attractiveness of networked transport systems is just as much a part of this as the digital transformation of the automotive industry. When the IAA Mobility takes place at Messe München from 5 to 10 September, the focus will by no means be solely on new electric models, optimised drive systems and improved ranges. As part of the “IAA Summit”, “more than 500 top-class visionaries” will speak on climate-friendly and connected mobility at the “IAA Conference” from 5 to 8 September, according to the announcement. Then, on three stages and two dialogue areas, “the most important developments for mobility of the future will be shown and discussed”. Topics such as “Connectivity & Data”, “Sustainability”, “Urban Mobility” and the potential of “Generative AI” for the mobility industry are to provide insights into the mobility topics of the future. According to the organisers, the „IAA Conference“, is “the most important international forum for trade visitors from all areas of the mobility industry” and is regarded as a centre for experts and designers of the mobility world.

Alongside the IAA Conference, the „IAA Mobility Design Conference“ will take place on 4 September as part of IAA Mobility, “the leading platform for mobility, sustainability and tech”. The conference, organised in collaboration with Konzepthaus and Car Design News (CDN), is said to focus “on the constant change and new challenges in vehicle design, especially with regard to the development towards sustainable, intelligently networked mobility”: vehicle design “is in a constant state of flux and we are seeing a remarkable transformation towards electric mobility and autonomous driving,” says Jürgen Mindel, Managing Director of the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA). “This has a direct impact on the vehicle layout and interior, and brings new challenges, including the selection of sustainable materials and the integration of augmented and virtual reality applications in the design process”. Speakers include: Jeremy Offer (Global Head of Design, Volvo Cars), Amko Leenarts (Design Director, Ford of Europe), Pierre Leclercq (Head of Design, Citroën), Max Missoni (Design Director, Polestar), Jennifer Kolstad, (Global Design and Brand Director, Ford Motor Company), Pratap Bose (Executive Vice-President and Chief Design Officer, Mahindra Group), Danila Giordano (FCA cross brands CMF Concept & Innovation chief designer – Stellantis) and Martin M Uhlarik (Vice-president & Head of Global Design – Tata Motors). Topics of discussion will include the opportunities for designers to define a new aesthetic and the challenges for holistic design to take into account the entire life cycle of a product from material sourcing to end-of-life disposal.

Participation in the “IAA Design Conference” is free of charge for all visitors to the “IAA Summit”; however, advance registration is required. The complete programme can be viewed online on the Car Design website.
