Maria Porro has become the new president of the Salone del Mobile, taking over from Claudio Luti, who unexpectedly resigned from the post in April. The board of directors of Federlegno Arredo Eventi selected the former president of Assarredo to lead the international design event. The new president and the board members of Federlegno Arredo Eventi say they will now turn to “building on the event’s successful 59-year heritage, outlining new strategies to respond to the upheavals of the present day and to reconcile the needs of exhibitors, the general public and international stakeholders.” According to Gianfranco Marinelli, president of Federlegno Arredo Eventi, the decision to elect a young, driven president is “part of a strategy to consolidate the event’s leading international role during a period of profound change.” Maria Porro “can count on the support of the entire Federlegno Arredo Eventi Board as she continues Salone del Mobile.Milano’s journey, with determination, along a pathway of growth and renewal.”

Born in 1983, Maria Porro became marketing and communications director at Italian design brand Porro S.p.A. in 2015. After serving on the executive board at Assarredo, she was unanimously elected president of the trade association for Italy’s furniture manufacturers in September 2020. Before devoting herself wholly to design, she studied set design at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera and spent a decade working as a designer, organiser and curator for theatre, art and major events around the world. Throughout, she has always maintained her ties with the Porro family business, working together with her father Lorenzo Porro and architect Piero Lissoni on the development of new products and the company’s presence at the Salone del Mobile.
