Design as a Driver of Transformation

The see-Conference, one of the most important interdisciplinary design conferences in Germany, attracts around 750 visitors to the Schlachthof cultural centre. Top-class speakers such as Berlin filmmaker Raman Djafari, theatre director and activist Stefan Kaegi (Rimini Protokoll) and sustainability pioneer Barbara Buser will discuss the role of design and visual design in social change. An accompanying exhibition and a party will round off the event.

Practical Solutions for Sustainable Urban Development

The see-Camp on 27 April goes one step further: experts and stakeholders from politics and business will discuss the practical implementation of regional innovations. There will be a special focus on the major urban development projects as part of the World Design Capital 2026.

From a High-Speed Bike Track to a Superblock

The planned high-speed cycle route between Mainz and Wiesbaden is one of the flagship projects. The first challenge in 2026 already shows the potential of the route: Which bridges are most frequently crossed? Where can the most useful ‘pop-up cycle paths’ be created?

Another highlight is Hesse’s first superblock: following the example of Barcelona, car-free zones are to be created in Wiesbaden’s Rheingau district, combining quality of life, climate adaptation and democratic urban design.

The event is organised by the non-profit association Bilder der Zukunft e.V. with the support of the Hessian Ministry of Economics, Energy, Transport, Housing and Rural Areas (Hessischen Ministeriums für Wirtschaft, Energie, Verkehr, Wohnen und ländlichen Raum) and the City of Wiesbaden.
