How can sustainability be conceived beyond sectoral and disciplinary boundaries? Join the Bundeskunsthalle Bonn on 13 and 14 November 2025 for the transform.NRW symposium, an interdisciplinary forum bringing art, culture, design and science together for an open dialogue on socio-ecological transformation.

Two years after its launch, the transform.NRW network project is holding a symposium to promote exchange, consolidation and reorientation. The aim is to promote collective sustainability expertise and forge new alliances. This will be the first time that methods, tools and projects from the transform.NRW collection have been presented to the public.

On the first day, the focus will be on the Agora, which is an open dialogue format comprising keynote speeches and moderated salons. The discussions will focus on interpersonal relationships, the relationship between humans and nature, and the role of economic and institutional frameworks. Speakers will include Prof. Dr Xiaomeng Shen (United Nations University), Prof. Dr Bianca Herlo (Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts), Jacob Sylvester Bilabel (Green Culture Contact Point), and Dr Nicole Zabel-Wasmuth and Lars Jessen (Planet Narratives).

Deepening, Networking, Linking

On the second day, themed rooms will open on narratives, networks, laboratories and places of transformation, with labs and panels. Theory and practice will converge in interactive formats. Good practices will be presented, methods will be shared, and strategies for financing and implementation will be developed collaboratively.

The Arena for Good Practices connects the two days. In short presentations, projects from the fields of culture, design and science demonstrate what respectful living within planetary boundaries could look like. The programme is complemented by artistic-performative formats and perspectives that add an additional sensorial-aesthetic layer.

transform.NRW is a partner of the exhibition ‘WEtransFORM. On the Future of Building’, which is also showing at the Bundeskunsthalle as part of the ‘Year of Sustainability and Ecological change’ until January 2026.
