The new ‘Circular Design’ category of the 2025 German Design Prize will recognise companies and designers who have pioneered the circular design movement. Only projects that do outstanding justice to the principles of circular design will be eligible for the award. A comprehensive catalogue of criteria has been developed together with the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy.
A renowned jury of circular design experts was appointed to evaluate the entries, including Daniela Bohlinger (BMW Group), Julie Hjort (Danish Design Center), Martin Pauli (Arup) and, for the first time, Dr Manuel Bickel from the Wuppertal Institute. The four-member jury uses a comprehensive set of criteria to assess the degree of innovation, maturity and potential of each project.
