Juliane Kühr, Master’s student at the Hochschule der Bildenden Künste Saar and one of the winners of the German Design Graduates 2023, as guest on DDCAST – the podcast of the German Design Club. The product designer talks to editor-in-chief and podcast host Georg Christof Bertsch about her graduation project “Vruit”, with which she was honoured as part of the German Design Graduates (GDG) 2023 initiative of the German Design Council in the “Focus topic: Inclusion” category.

Juliane Kühr views design as a tool for shaping a fair and inclusive society. With “Vruit”, the designer therefore focuses on an often marginalised social group. Kühr designed a sex toy for self-insemination that offers an alternative to clinical insemination by medical professionals. The use of “Vruit” enables a sensual and relaxed choreography for everyone involved – from the sperm donation to the actual insemination,” says the designer. This makes self-insemination as easy as conception through heteronormative sexual intercourse.
