Authors are invited to submit articles for the fourth edition of Design & Bildung, a series of essay anthologies about design pedagogy. This edition’s declared focus is the “Aesthetics and Semiotics of Design”. The world we live in is full of phenomena shaped by everyday aesthetics and cultural semiotics. What remarkable phenomena are there to be seen? How can they be comprehended in terms of cultural semiotics and cultural studies? How can they be studied for design pedagogy, art pedagogy or general cultural pedagogy? This edition calls for articles that deal in the aforementioned subject areas, preferably offer illustrations or integrate visual arguments.
Of interest are reflections, practices and scenarios, starting with basic theoretical essays or discussions of images and media through to presentations of design phenomena and analyses of product language as well as staged designs and experimental aestheticisation strategies. An abstract of at least 500 and at most 1,000 words is to be submitted. Abstracts and full articles will be subjected to academic review. The final article should count between 20,000 and 30,000 characters including spaces. Abstracts are encouraged to include reduced-size illustrations for the article. The abstract must be sent as a Word or PDF file to email@example.com by 31 March 2021.
